Brand Standards Scans

Brand Standards Scans help admins and brand managers keep a profile aligned with an external brand or design standards site.

This workflow is useful when your organization already publishes approved guidance and you want Brand Controls to stay closer to that source.

Use a standards scan when:

  • Your brand team maintains a standards website or design system
  • You need to refresh core colors, allowed and forbidden colors, typography, or phrase guidance from the source of truth
  • You want an evidence trail showing why profile guidance changed
  • You want to review likely updates before activating the profile

Use this mode for simpler checks when you only need a lighter pass over the source.

Use this mode when you want a deeper scan that can inspect multiple pages and surface stronger brand signals such as:

  • Core palette guidance
  • Primary, secondary, accent, and forbidden color guidance
  • Typography direction
  • Required and forbidden phrasing guidance
  • High-level design principles and negative guidance
  1. Open Brand Controls.
  2. Select or create the brand profile you want to review.
  3. Configure the source URL and scan settings.
  4. Select Run Scan Now.
  5. Review the updated Color, Typography, and Prompt Guardrails sections.

If you made unsaved changes first, the platform saves them before scanning.

Scans can now write back:

  • Allowed palette colors
  • Primary, secondary, and accent colors
  • Forbidden colors
  • Font families
  • Heading and body style guidance
  • Required phrases
  • Forbidden phrases
  • Style descriptors

For the cleanest results:

  • Point the scan at a standards or design-system source, not a marketing homepage.
  • Limit scanning to trusted domains.
  • Use include and exclude URL patterns to keep the scan focused.
  • Raise the minimum confidence when you want fewer, stronger suggestions.

After a scan, the compliance area can show:

  • Which mode ran
  • Which pages were scanned
  • Evidence snippets tied to extracted guidance
  • Which deltas were found
  • Which updates were applied automatically

Treat this view as a review surface before activating the profile for broad use.

  • Start with a smaller page limit when testing a new source.
  • Use the evidence trail to confirm the scan found system-level guidance rather than one-off examples.
  • Review changes in draft before activating the profile.
  • Re-run scans when the upstream standards source changes meaningfully.

If the scan does not produce useful updates:

  • Confirm the source URL points to the right standards content.
  • Check that your allow and exclude patterns are not blocking the pages you need.
  • Increase the page limit for larger standards sites.
  • Lower or raise the confidence threshold depending on whether you need broader discovery or stricter matching.
